Digital Learning

We are committed to providing grade appropriate learning with a guaranteed and viable curriculum (GVC) that leverages technology to enhance accessibility and student agency. We believe this is powerful because:

  • Student use of digital tools prepares students to be digitally literate and media literate.
  • Students can continue their learning during class time, extended time, or outside the school day.
  • Students can make choices that support their learning style.
  • Employing the correct tools in a strong instructional model can lead to better personalization, differentiation, and therefore student achievement.

Effective integration of technology is achieved when students are able to select technology tools to help them obtain information in a timely manner, analyze and synthesize the information, and present it professionally. The technology should become an integral part of how the classroom functions -- as accessible as all other classroom tools.

-National Educational Technology Standards for Students, International Society for Technology in Education

Highline’s strategic plan promises that “students will graduate with the problem-solving and critical thinking skills necessary to live and work responsibly in a digital world.” In service of this goal, the Department of Technology and Department of Teaching, Learning and Leading work together to ensure students have the most current devices and software (digital tools) to support student learning.

Digital Tools

Digital tools are programs, websites or online resources that can make learning engaging and easy to access. Many are available from a web browser and do not require the use of a district provided device. Students can get to the district provided digital tools from ClassLink.

A review process exists to ensure digital tools are safe to use with students and align with Highline's strategic plan goals. The digital tools available on ClassLink Launchpad have been vetted by an interdepartmental team and are approved for use by teachers and students.

ClassLink is our single sign-on portal for students to easily access digital tools specific to them.
